Professional gutter cleaning usually costs $120 to $320 for one visit. HomeAdvisor puts the typical range at $119 to $234, about $168 on average, Today's Homeowner at $125 to $250, and Modernize at $128 to $320 for a one-storey home with about 160 feet of gutter. Fixr is higher, at $200 to $400, about $300 on average. The price is mostly a matter of how many feet of gutter you have and how high they are. Most homes need cleaning at least twice a year, in spring and fall, and more often under trees.

Cost by number of storeys

Cleaning is priced by the linear foot, and the rate climbs with height because the work is slower and needs more safety gear.

Home HomeAdvisor, per foot (June 2026) Today's Homeowner, per foot (April 2025) Fixr, per foot (January 2025)
One storey $0.95 – $1.25 $0.95 – $1.25 $0.70 – $1.50
Two storeys $1.00 – $1.85 $1.00 – $1.85 $1.50 – $2.50
Three storeys $1.25 – $2.25 $1.25 – $2.25 $2.50 – $3.20

Modernize's per-visit figures by height are $120 to $240 for one storey, $250 to $320 for two and $300 to $400 for three.

Cost by length of gutter

HomeAdvisor says the average home has 125 to 200 feet of gutter, and larger homes often have more. Fixr's rule of thumb is about 10 feet of gutter for every 100 square feet of floor space, which gives roughly 150 feet for a 1,500 square foot house and 200 feet for a 2,000 square foot one. That ratio is Fixr's, and your roofline may differ, so measure or ask the cleaner to.

Today's Homeowner turns the per-foot rates into totals:

Gutter length One storey Two storeys Three storeys
100 feet $95 – $125 $100 – $185 $125 – $225
150 feet $98 – $156 $150 – $278 $188 – $338
200 feet $130 – $250 $200 – $370 $250 – $450
300 feet $195 – $375 $300 – $555 $375 – $675

Fixr's own totals for 150 feet are $150 to $225 for one storey, $225 to $375 for two and $375 to $480 for three.

What else changes the price

  • Condition. HomeAdvisor says neglected gutters can add 10% to 50% for the extra debris. Today's Homeowner gives $115 to $275 for gutters in excellent shape and $200 to $450 for poor ones.
  • Roof shape and slope. Today's Homeowner lists steep roofs at $175 to $450 against $115 to $325 for slight slopes, and complicated hip roofs above simple gabled ones.
  • Downspouts. Clearing a clogged downspout adds $50 to $100 according to HomeAdvisor, Modernize, Fixr and Today's Homeowner. HomeAdvisor says downspout cleaning is not included unless you ask.
  • Minor repairs. Flushing downspouts and small fixes together add $50 to $100, says HomeAdvisor. Fixr says minor repairs add about 15% to the estimate. For larger jobs see gutter repair cost.
  • Season. Today's Homeowner says prices rise 10% to 20% in early spring and late fall. HomeAdvisor says booking in early winter or summer may save 10% to 50%.
  • Travel. Today's Homeowner lists a travel fee of $50 to $175 when a cleaner drives far, which varies by company.
  • Guards. Cleaning takes longer if guards have to come off first, HomeAdvisor says. Our gutter guards cost guide covers the price of removing screens.

What a visit includes

HomeAdvisor says the cleaner clears every foot of gutter so water can run freely, usually in about an hour for an average one-storey home and two to three hours for taller ones. Fixr's list adds an inspection of fasteners and seals, a check of the slope, and clearing debris from the ground. Ask the cleaner what is included before you book:

  • Is debris bagged and hauled away, or left on the lawn? Fixr says to ask whether removal is in the estimate.
  • Are the downspouts flushed or checked, or only the gutters?
  • Is a rinse or hose-down of the gutters included?
  • Will they tell you about loose hangers, sagging sections or leaks they find?

How often to clean

Fixr and Modernize give a minimum of twice a year, in spring and fall. HomeAdvisor says once or twice a year, and two to four visits for homes under tall trees. Fixr adds a cleaning after big storms, and says to clean more often if the gutters fill quickly. Gutters with guards still need an occasional look, Modernize and HomeAdvisor say, though less often. See gutter guard types for what suits your trees.

Clogged gutters in winter can add to ice problems at the eaves; our guide to ice dams explains what actually causes them.

What a missed cleaning can cost

Today's Homeowner lists what it calls costs of neglect: foundation repair of $2,000 to $8,000, with severe cases much higher, water damage restoration of $1,300 to $6,000 and roof repair of about $1,000. Those are its own repair figures and not a forecast for any one home. The point is the gap between a $150 cleaning and a repair bill, if overflowing water keeps landing in the same place. Our guide to overflowing gutters covers the causes, and gutters and foundation damage covers what overflowing water does at the base of the house.

Hiring a cleaner or doing it yourself

HomeAdvisor says do-it-yourself tools cost $20 to $50, while Today's Homeowner puts a full equipment set at $271 to $745, including a ladder of $150 to $350. The larger cost is the risk. Cleaning means working at the roof edge from a ladder, and a fall is the main danger. If your gutters are above one storey, or the ground is uneven, pay someone who has the equipment. We do not give do-it-yourself steps here.

When you compare estimates, ask for a price per foot and the number of feet, not a flat sum. Ask whether the cleaner carries insurance. Be careful of anyone who says your gutters need replacing without showing you why; signs you need new gutters lists what a real problem looks like.

Frequently asked questions

How much should I pay to have my gutters cleaned?

For an average one-storey home, between about $120 and $320, depending on the source. Two storeys cost more per foot, and three storeys the most.

How often should gutters be cleaned?

At least twice a year, in spring and fall, according to Fixr and Modernize; HomeAdvisor says once or twice. Heavy tree cover or storms can mean up to four times.

Is gutter cleaning worth paying for?

If you cannot do the work safely from a ladder, yes. A cleaning of $150 or so is small next to the repair costs Today's Homeowner lists for neglected gutters.

Do gutter guards mean I never clean?

No. Modernize and HomeAdvisor both say gutters with guards still need occasional cleaning.

Does the price include the downspouts?

Not always. HomeAdvisor says downspout cleaning is not included unless you request it, and the usual add-on is $50 to $100.

How we got these numbers

HomeAnvil does not yet publish price data of its own. Every figure here comes from a published national cost guide, read on October 13, 2026. Their ranges differ because they count different homes and services, so we show them side by side. Angi and HomeGuide block automated reading of their cleaning pages, so we did not use them. The per-visit range in the opening is the spread across the sources below, not a figure from any one of them.
